Springfield (11-7) is making its eighth straight NCAA trip. The Pride won the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title with a 13-7 win Saturday over Babson. Cortland earned an NCAA berth this season by winning its eighth straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament title, 14-12 versus Plattsburgh, this past Saturday. The Red Dragons, ranked 11th nationally, opened the season with a 2-4 record but have won their last 12 games. Cortland's four losses this year have come to teams in this year's NCAA field (Union, RIT, Stevenson and Lynchburg).

Last season, Cortland advanced to the national quarterfinals with wins over Keuka and Springfield before losing at eventual national champion Tufts. Cortland has played in the national championship game five times since 2006 with four straight showings from 2006-09 as well as an appearance in 2012. Cortland won the 2006 national crown versus Salisbury and the 2009 title against Gettysburg. The Red Dragons lost to Salisbury in the national finals in 2007, 2008 and 2012.
