SUNYAC Announces Fred Holloway Award Winner

FREDONIA - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the winner of the 2010 Fred Holloway Award. The award is given to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average on either the first or second all-conference team with a minimum of four semester completed.

Geneseo junior Ian Mort (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) is the 2010 award recipient. Mort is the third consecutive Geneseo athlete and eighth overall to earn the Fred Holloway award that honors a former Cortland coach, since its inception in 1990. Mort kept the award in the family as his brother Joey received the honor in 2009.

Mort started all 18 games at forward for the Knights as they completed the season with a record of 9-7-2. He was the lone representative on the first team All-SUNYAC for Geneseo after scoring 22 points on ten goals and two assists. Geneseo finished 5-4 in SUNYAC play and earned the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament before falling in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Plattsburgh in a penalty kick shootout.

Off the playing field, Mort majors in biology and was named to the 2010 ESPN College Division Men's Soccer All-Academic District I First team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is a two-time member of the SUNYAC All-Academic team and member of the SUNYAC Commissioner's List.
