SUNYAC Men's Soccer Postseason Awards Announced

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces the 2012 Men’s Soccer Postseason Awards. Plattsburgh State’s Chris Waterbury has been named the Coach of the Year, Oneonta’s Dan Scott (Hyde Park, NY) has been selected for the Huntley Parker Most Valuable Player Award and teammate Sean Vinberg (Massapequa Park, NY) has been tabbed the Rookie of the Year.

This is the seventh time in Waterbury’s 28 years with the Cardinals men’s soccer team that he has been selected SUNYAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year by a vote from the conference coaches. He has compiled a 390-118-54 record which makes him the winningest SUNYAC coach in the program’s history. Waterbury led his team to a first place regular-season finish (7-2) and an appearance in the SUNYAC championship game ending in a 2-1 loss to Oneonta.

Senior defender Scott has been awarded the Huntley Parker Award which is named after the highly successful soccer coach who coached for 14 years at Brockport. Scott helped guide his team to their second-consecutive and seventh overall SUNYAC title. Dan was named the Most Valuable Player for the SUNYAC tournament after anchoring the Oneonta defense and helping to keep his opponents to just one goal in each game during tournament play. Scott has started every game for Oneonta contributing two assists and has been a part of a defense that has allowed less than one goal per game this season.

Freshman defender Vinberg was voted SUNYAC Rookie of the Year by the conference coaches. Sean started 17 games and played in 19 scoring his first collegiate goal and adding his first assist in his freshman season. Vinberg will make his first NCAA appearance with his team as they host the first and second rounds games this Saturday and Sunday.
