SYRACUSE, NY - The SUNYAC selects Geneseo's Griffin Merkling as the 2024 Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year. This award is nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors.

Merkling recorded a 3.67 fall semester grade point average with a 3.66 cumulative GPA as a geology major.

Merkling earned second-team All-American status after helping the 200-yard medley relay team finish 16th at the NCAA Division III championships. He also led off the 400-yard medley relay team and his backstroke split set a new program and conference record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.27. Merkling was also a first-team All-SUNYAC honoree from his performance at the SUNYAC championship meet, finishing first in the 200 medley relay, 100 backstroke, 400 medley relay, and 200 backstroke.
