SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC picks Cortland's Tori Reich as the Softball Athlete of the Week and New Paltz's Sydney Waldon as the Pitcher of the Week.
Reich batted .520 (13-for-25) with two doubles, six walks and nine RBI during a 7-1 stretch for Cortland during its season-opening trip to Florida. She hit safely in seven of the eight games, including a 3-for-4 effort with two RBI in a win over Wooster, a 2-for-3 performance with a walk, three RBI and two runs in a win over Mitchell, and a 2-for-4 outing with two RBI in a victory over Springfield. She also had two hits in a win versus Arcadia and in a loss to Nichols. Reich made only one error in 31 chances at second base (17 putouts, 13 assists).
Waldon had a prolific week after earning two wins in three appearances. She had a career game in a 2-0 regional win over Manhattanville with a career-high 10 strikeouts in a complete game performance, giving up just one hit and no earned runs. She earned the win over NYU, tossing five innings, giving up three hits with six strikeouts.
