Women's Basketball Still in the Pink Zone

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's basketball teams will continue its participation in the "WBCA Pink Zone" initiative this weekend. The "Pink Zone," is an outreach and fundraising effort supported by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to raise breast cancer awareness in college communities and beyond.

Buffalo State will host Plattsburgh at 6:00 pm on Friday, Feb. 18. The Bengals will wear pink uniforms, purchased through a generous donation from assistant coach Max Payne, whose wife Janet lost her battle with breast cancer in 2007. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase pink ribbons and shirts.

The SUNY Cortland women's basketball team will be hosting SUNY Geneseo on Friday, Feb. 18. There will be a chance for fans to donate to the cause during the game, and the Red Dragons will continue to wear pink warmup tops that they've worn during the past few games.

SUNY Oswego will take on Brockport the same night and the Collages Against Cancer group at Oswego will be handing out breast cancer informational pamphlets and collecting donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Oneonta and Plattsburgh hosted their Pink Zone games last weekend.

The WBCA Pink Zone initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The NCAA has also joined the WBCA's Pink Zone initiative by continuing the "Calling for a Cure" campaign, in which all NCAA women's basketball officials will be blowing a pink whistle in games from February 11-20, the period set aside for this year's program.  Additionally, officials are encouraged to donate to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
