Geneseo's Lyons, McGinnis, Hemer Earn ECAC Basketball Honors

The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2014-15 Division III Upstate Men's and Women's Basketball All-Star Teams.

On the men's side, Geneseo's Gordon Lyons took home the ECAC Player of the Year honors. He finished the 2014-15 season with 12.6 rebounds per game, leading the nation. The Amherst, New York native averaged 20.6 points per game on the season. Lyons also led the nation with 20 double-doubles. He finishes his career in third place on the all-time scoring list with 1,626 points, second in rebounds with 1,015, and is only the second player in program history to attain 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Lyons was named to the First Team as well, joined by fellow SUNYAC student-athlete, Oswego's Brian Sortino. Plattsburgh's Reggie Williams, Oneonta's Zach Mager, and Buffalo State's Christopher Cartwright were named to the second team.

On the ladies side, Senior Shannon McGinnis (Walworth, N.Y.) of SUNY Geneseo was selected as the ECAC Player of the Year. She became the first player in program history to grab 1,000 or more rebounds and is third in scoring with 1,473 points. She led the SUNYAC with 11.4 rebounds per game and was third in scoring with 15.7 points per game, while leading the Knights to the third round in the NCAA Division III tournament.

Joining McGinnis on the ECAC All-Star First Team was Cortland's Junior Brittany Dumas. Brockport's Junior Olivia Suhr was named to the second team.

Geneseo Women's Head Coach Scott Hemer was named the 2014-15 ECAC Coach of the Year. Hemer was named the East Region Coach of the Year after leading the Geneseo program to their fifth overall SUNYAC championship and a 25-5 record. The 2014-15 campaign saw the Knights win 19 straight before losing to FDU-Florham in the NCAA tournament sectional semifinals. It was the program's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 in 20 years. 
 
The voting was completed by coaches within the ECAC Division III Upstate Region.
