SUNYAC Basketball Championships set for 4 p.m. Saturday

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's and women's basketball championship matchups are set for 4 p.m. Saturday. The final teams will be playing for the SUNYAC title and an automatic berth in the 2016 NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament.

On the women's side, the top two seeds, New Paltz and Geneseo will faceoff Saturday in New Paltz. The Knights, who are the SUNYAC defending champions, defeated #3 Fredonia, 71-41, in the first semifinal Friday night led by Allison McKenna who scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds [Box Score]. The second-seeded Cortland men's basketball team will play the defending SUNYAC champions, Oswego, Saturday in Plattsburgh. The Red Dragons outlasted #3 Brockport, 80-78, in the first semifinal game Friday night led by Blair Estarfaa's 19 point performance [Box Score]. Brian Sortino scored 29 points to help the Lakers upset the top-seeded Plattsburgh, 81-74, in the second semifinal of the night [Box Score]. Bracket

In conjunction with the NCAA Division III 35-year celebration of women's basketball, the SUNYAC recognized former women's basketball all-conference, player of the year, rookie of the year and coach of the year award winners who were present at the SUNYAC Women's Basketball Championships Friday night.
