SUNYAC announces Women's Basketball annual honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to recognize and award the 2016 women's basketball Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and the All-Conference teams. All awards were voted on by the SUNYAC women's basketball conference coaches.

Lyteshia Price (Liverpool N.Y./Liverpool HS) from Oneonta was awarded Player of the Year. Jenna Einink (Mayville, N.Y. / Chautauqua Lake Central School) from Fredonia was named Rookie of the Year.

Oneonta's Price earned the 2016 Player of the Year following her stellar senior season. Price was the go-to player for the 17-10 Red Dragons, and her numbers showed it. Price finshed the 2015-16 season overall second in the conference in scoring (450) and fourth in three-point percentage (.314). She also was top five in rebounds (235), blocks (43), steals (66) and field goal percentage (.346). Besides her amazing statistical season, possibly her most valuable quality was her availability. Price started every single game in her four-year career at Oneonta.

Fredonia's Einink was named the 2016 Rookie of the Year after she played in all games as a freshman. She made an immediate contribution for the Blue Devils who finished third in the conference after the regular-season, 13-5, and made it to the SUNYAC semifinals. Einink finished the regular-season overall fourth in blocked shots (54), 11th in points (318), 11th in steals (45) and 12th in rebounds (193). The Blue Devils ended their season 19-8 overall.

Geneseo's Head Coach Scott Hemer was named SUNYAC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career and second straight season. Hemer coached the Knights to a 20-7 record, including 14-4 in SUNYAC play. Geneseo finished as the runner-up in the 2015-16 SUNYAC Championship. The Knights earned an at-large bid into the 2016 NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament and will face FDU-Florham in the first round this Friday, March 4, at Stevens Insitute (N.J.).
