Geneseo Women's Basketball To Host Muhlenberg In NCAA Division III Tournament

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo will host Muhlenberg in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament, as the 64-team field was announced Monday.

The Knights will take on the visiting Mules at 7 p.m. while Rochester and Keene State (N.H.) will also square off in the opening round this Friday (March 3) at Schrader Gymnasium. The two winners will advance to Saturday's (March 4) second round with a berth in the Sweet 16 on the line. Times for all games are to be determined.

The Knights (26-1) received an at-large bid to their third-straight tournament after finishing runner-up in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament for the second year in a row. The squad returns 11 players from last year's tournament team that earned a first-round win over FDU-Florham, 51-45, before falling to host Stevens Tech in the second round, 66-60.

Geneseo will be making the ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, holding an 11-8 tournament record, including three wins in the past two seasons. The team has advanced as far as the sectional finals on two occasions, falling to Salem State, 76-65, in 1995, and to Scranton, 79-70, in 1993.
