Under third-year head coach Kelly Lickert-Orr, the Red Dragons earned a berth into the 40-team NCAA field after capturing their 19th straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament title. Cortland won the league crown with a 12-7 win at top-seeded Brockport in this past Saturday's championship game. The Red Dragons will be making their 19th straight NCAA appearance and 21st overall.

Cortland has advanced to the national semifinals each of the last six years. In 2015 during Lickert-Orr's first year as head coach, Cortland finished 22-1 and won the school's first national title. The Red Dragons lost in the national semifinals in 2016 as well as four straight years from 2011-14. Last year, Cortland won its first 21 games before losing to eventual national champ Middlebury, 16-11, in the semifinals.

Cortland is 3-3 this spring versus other teams in the NCAA field with a split versus Brockport, wins over Catholic and Denison, and losses at Franklin & Marshall and Ithaca.
