Chen Named in Tennis Coach of the Year

In recognition of his team’s highly successful season, Geneseo’s James Chen has been chosen as the 2011 SUNYAC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year for the second time in his 10-year career. Chen led his team to an overall record of 11-1 and their third SUNYAC title in the past four seasons and fifth overall (1998, 2001, 2008, 2009, 2011). With the championship title, Geneseo earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III championship tournament in May, 2012.

In 10 seasons at the helm of the Knights tennis team, Chen has posted an overall record of 103-28. He eclipsed the 100-career win milestone on Oct. 4th with an 8-1 win over Rochester. Chen has now led the Knights to a top three finish in the SUNYAC all ten years as Geneseo head coach.

Chen previously won coach of the year honors in 2009 and is the second Knight coach to earn the award as former coach Paul Duffy was recognized twice (1998 and 2001).
