Plattsburgh to host SUNYAC Cross Country Championships Saturday

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships are set to run Saturday, Oct. 31 in Plattsburgh. The women's 6K race will begin at 11 a.m., while the men's 8K race will kick off at 12 p.m.

The Geneseo men look to defend their 2014 SUNYAC crown after narrowly defeating Cortland at Brockport one year ago. Cortland's Nick Marcantonio and Jarred Iacovelli, both SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Famers, were the top two finishers, but the Knights had six runners cross the finish line among the top 15 finishers to win by just four points. Cortland junior Mitch Ryan and Geneseo junior Alfredo Mazzuca, fifth and sixth overall finishers, respectively, are the top returning runners from last year's event. The past seventeen SUNYAC men's titles have gone to either Geneseo or Cortland, and both teams look to hold off the competition and add another championship.

Geneseo also looks to defend their title on the women's side after cruising to the 2014 SUNYAC title. Eight of the top 15 finishers were Knights, including the overall winner Cassie Goodman. Junior Marissa Bellusci, who finished third overall, is the top returning runner in the field. The Knights are seeking their 14th overall and fifth straight conference title. Only Cortland holds more with 16 SUNYAC crowns to their credit.
