Cortland's senior captain, Erin Smith started all 17 games in 2013 and totaled 38 points with 13 goals and 12 assists. As a back, Smith leads the conference in shots per game (89), she is second in assists per game and she ranks eighth in goals per game.
Smith was name to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team after she had an assist in the 2-1 victory over Oneonta in the semifinal game and added one goal and one assist in the double overtime shootout loss to New Paltz in the Championship game.
Smith has been recognized as both the SUNYAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week this season.
Gabrielle Stein's offensive strength on the field has contributed to the Red Dragons (6-0) undefeated record in conference play. She is the team leader in goals (21), and points (44) and leads the conference in goals per game. She helped her team to a No. 1 seed and a SUNYAC Championship appearance.
Stein is the sixth Cortland player to be honored as the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year since 2010. Amid her first year of collegiate accolades are the SUNYAC and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week honors.
The 5'2” freshman joined the Red Dragons after graduating from Maine-Endwell High School in her hometown of Endwell, N.Y. While in high school she was a four year starter on the field hockey team and a three time All-State selection. Additionally, the scholar athlete was a two year starter on the softball team.
SUNY New Paltz's Shanna Vitale has been honored as the SUNYAC Field Hockey Coach of the Year for the third-consecutive year. This season Vitale led her third-seeded team (4-2) to win its second-straight SUNYAC Championship
New Paltz defeated No. 2 Geneseo, 3-1, in the semifinals and then went on to beat top-seeded SUNY Cortland in a shootout after a 4-4 tie in double overtime.
Vitale has tallied 54 victories over five seasons which is more than any other coach in program history. Last year she was named the Synapse Sports NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year.
The Hawks are headed to their second-ever NCAA Division III Tournament where they will face No. 10 William Smith.
