YORK, PA. - The Cortland men's basketball team had its season come to a close as the Red Dragons fell to nationally second-ranked New York University, 72-36, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament, hosted by York College of Pennsylvania.

Cortland, making its first NCAA appearance since 2016, finishes the season with a 17-12 record, including a 15-5 mark over its final 20 games. NYU improved to 25-1 and will face either York or John Carroll in the second round Saturday at York.

Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) led Cortland with 12 points and six rebounds. Jaylen Warmack (Utica/Utica Notre Dame), Cortland's lone senior, finished with nine points and three boards and Kendall Arcuri (Staten Island/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) scored six points and added four rebounds.

Tristan How led NYU with 17 points and 11 rebounds. He made 7-of-8 shots from the field. Brock Susko scored 16 points, including 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range. NYU shot 50 percent in the first half and 44 percent for the game overall while holding Cortland to 25 percent from the field, including 3-of-30 from the 3-point arc.

Cortland trailed 8-5 more than six minutes into the game before NYU rattled off nine straight points to go up 17-5 with 11:17 left. The Red Dragons got back to within 17-9 at the 8:49 mark, but the Violets scored the next 18 points and were up 35-9 with 2:43 left. NYU led 40-14 at halftime and by at least 25 points the entire second half.
