PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
– The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team saw its season end in heartbreaking fashion when Norwich’s Chad Anderson tallied the game winner at the 17:43 mark in sudden victory overtime to give the Cadets a 3-2 win over the Cardinals in an NCAA Division III Quarterfinal game at the Stafford Ice Arena.

The Cardinals were the first to grab a lead late in the first period when Dan Sliasis took a feed from Dylan Clarke and buried it in a wide open net to put Plattsburgh up 1-0 at the end of the first.

With the Cadets on the power-play at the start of the second period, Pier-Olivier Cotnoir knotted the game at 1-1 with his 19th of the year from Greg Eskedjian with just 29 seconds gone in the period.  Less than three minutes later, the Cadets were on the power-play again and Cotnoir tallied his second of the game to give Norwich their first lead of the night.

The Cardinals were able to swing momentum their way with 24 seconds left in the period as Kyle Kudroch knocked a rebound off a shot from Ryan Corry, sending the teams to the locker rooms tied at 2-2.

After a scoreless third period, the teams took the ice for sudden victory overtime to decide who would advance to 2011 NCAA Division III Final Four.  With Plattsburgh down a skater, Kyle Thomas took a shot which was stopped by a sprawling Josh Leis but Anderson gained control of the puck and found the back of the net.

Plattsburgh held a 31-21 advantage in shots on goal.  Norwich goaltender Parker Carroll recorded 29 saves and improves to 14-0-2.  Leis turned away 18 shots and finishes the year at 17-5-1.

The Cadets, who improve to 22-5-3, move on to the NCAA semifinals and will take on St. Norbert.

The Cardinals finish the 2010-11 season with a 20-8-1 mark.  With the loss, tonight marks the final game as a Cardinal for Dylan Clarke, Eric Satim, Dan Sliasis, Ryan Corry and Kyle VanDermale.  The senior class has compiled an 88-21-7 record of their four year career and have amassed 431 career points.  Clarke and Satim are members of the 100-point club, with 139 and 122 points, respectively.
