Athletes of the Week Recognized by Conference

 

FIELD HOCKEY - Geneseo
Michelle Milkovich, senior forward

Michelle Milkovich (Vestal, NY/Vestal) led the Geneseo Knights to its 17th consecutive win and first ever SUNYAC Championship where she was named the Tournament MVP. She scored one goal and added an assist in the 3-0 semifinal win over Brockport. In the championship game against Cortland she had a chance to score in the first half but was denied on a defensive save. In the second half she blasted a shot off a penalty corner but her shot was turned away by the Cortland keeper, but luckily a Geneseo player collected the rebound to break the scoreless tie with less than eight minutes to play. The Knights held on for the 1-0 win, snapping Cortland's 10-year conference championship streak. Geneseo learned early on Monday, that they earned a bid into the 24-team NCAA tournament and will face Stevens on Wednesday.
 
MEN'S SOCCER - Plattsburgh
John LoGuirato, senior defense

John LoGuirato (Holbrook, NY/Ronkonkoma Sachem North) was named the men's soccer tournament MVP after leading fourth-seeded Plattsburgh to its first SUNYAC championship since 2005 and 12th conference title overall. LoGuirato assisted on the Cardinals goal in the 8th minute for a 1-0 lead against Brockport in the championship game. He converted 2-of-3 attempts in penalty-kick shootouts throughout the tournament as Plattsburgh defeated No. 5 Geneseo, upset No. 1 Oneonta and defeated the defending conference champions en route to the NCAA automatic bid.
 
WOMEN'S SOCCER - Oneonta
Erin Boyle, senior defender

Senior defender Erin Boyle (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) helped lead the women's soccer team to their third conference championship in the last four years and 11th overall while earning the NCAA automatic bid. Boyle was named the tournament MVP as the Oneonta defense allowed one goal, on a penalty kick, in two games. The Red Dragons shutout Cortland 2-0 in the semifinals and held on for the 2-1 win over Plattsburgh in the championship.

VOLLEYBALL - Cortland
Kristen Guercio, senior setter

Senior Kristen Guercio (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) was named MVP of the SUNYAC Tournament after averaging 11.1 assists per set in two Cortland victories. She helped lead the Red Dragons to their 17th SUNYAC title and their first since 2007. Guercio recorded 30 assists in the 3-0 sweep of Geneseo in the semifinals before handing out 48 helpers in the 3-1 win against New Paltz in the Championship. She also added five kills and 18 digs.
 
ICE HOCKEY PLAYER - Oswego
Luke Moodie, sophomore forward

Oswego State sophomore forward Luke Moodie (Burlington, ONT/Oakville Blades) played a key role in the Lakers posting victories over Potsdam, 7-1, and Plattsburgh, 5-3, over the weekend. Moodie registered a natural hat trick over a six-minute span in the second and third period to break open a one-goal game versus Potsdam. In Saturday's contest against the Cardinals, he netted the game's first goal and assisted the first Laker score in the third period.
 
ICE HOCKEY GOALIE - Morrisville
Caylin Relkoff, senior

Caylin Relkoff (Grand Forks, British Columbia) collected 79 saves and a .952 save percentage in two conference wins for Morrisville State over the weekend, allowing two goals against Brockport and Geneseo. In the win over Brockport he turned away 32 for a .941 save percentage and on Saturday, tallied 47 (including 23 in the final period) for a .959 save percentage as Morrisville State upset Geneseo. Morrisville State is 2-1 overall and 2-0 in SUNYAC play.
 
ICE HOCKEY ROOKIE - Buffalo State
Kevin Carr, freshman goalie

Kevin Carr (Unionville, ONT/Unionville) earned his first collegiate win between the pipes with a 3-2 overtime decision against Fredonia. He made 39 saves and posted a .975 save percentage against the Blue Devils including 16 in the third period to force the extra session where he made five saves before the Bengals scored the game winner.
 
MEN'S SWIMMING - Geneseo
Josh Kaplan, junior

Josh Kaplan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) won three individual events and was on a winning relay as the Blue Wave defeated Fredonia in a dual meet to earn SUNYAC Male Swimmer of the Week Honors. Kaplan won the 100 and 200 backstrokes in 55.05 and 2:02.60, respectively, won the 100 butterfly in 55.91 and was part of the winning 200 medley relay.
 
WOMEN'S SWIMMING - New Paltz
Jessica Lester, senior

Jessica Lester (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) set an Elting Pool record in the 1000 freestyle against Oneonta, covering the race in 10:53.49. The former mark was set last year at 10:53.90. Lester also took second in the 200 backstroke (2:19.91) against the Red Dragons. The senior led a 1-2 New Paltz finish in the 1000 freestyle against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy stopping the clock at 10:58.79.
 
MEN'S DIVING - Geneseo
Wills DeMoulin, senior

Wills DeMoulin (Pittsford, NY/Mendon) won both the one-meter and the three-meter boards in aiding Geneseo to a 170-116 dual meet win over Fredonia. He posted a score of 265.10 on the one-meter, almost 16 points ahead of the runner-up. DeMoulin's three-meter score of 271.25 was nearly 29 points better than second place.
 
WOMEN'S DIVING - Fredonia
Sarah Ficarro, sophomore

Sophomore Sarah Ficarro (Owego, NY/Owego) was a double-winner for the Blue Devils in the dual meet against Geneseo. Ficarro posted an NCAA Division III qualifying score in 1-meter diving. Her 262.60 point total exceeded the national cut-off of 255 points for six dives. Ficarro's also had a winning total of 235.55 points off the 3-meter board.
