Members of The College at Brockport’s various athletics teams put on their dancing shoes for charity during Wednesday night’s first "Dancing with the Athletes" competition, and a pair of men's lacrosse athletes emerged as champions.
Senior Justin Tierney (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and junior Nate Thomas (Cortland, NY/Cortland) were paired up with female members of the College’s Department of Dance for the competition, and Tierney and Thomas walked away as champions.
The duo won $200 for their dance moves, and have agreed to donate their winnings to Camp Abilities, a one-week, developmental sports camp for children between the ages of 9 and 19 who are visually impaired, blind, or deafblind. The camp is set up to provide a 1 to 1 instructional situation for each child, and is held on the Brockport college campus.
During the competition, student-athletes from Brockport’s various sports teams took their talents to the dance floor inside Hartwell Hall’s Strasser Studio. Student-athletes from Brockport’s baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming and diving and wrestling squads participated in the event.
The competition was co-sponsored by the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics and Brockport Student Government.
