Beauvais Honored as Men's Soccer Academic Player of the Year

Cortland's Tim Beauvais  has been named the 2013 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Academic Player of the Year and honored with the Fred Holloway Award. The Cortland junior goalie achieved the highest cumulative grade point average among the first and second All-Conference Teams with four semesters of college already under his cleats.

The studious soccer star is among two other Red Dragons (Michael Borra and Vjekoslav Luburic) to win the prestigious award since its inception in 1990.

Beauvais helped lead the Red Dragons to a No. 2 regular season finish. Cortland made it to the SUNYAC Championship game, but fell short to Plattsburgh State, 2-1. Tim finished the season first in the conference averaging 6.39 saves per game and second with an .839 save percentage. Beauvais had seven shutouts and a 1.18 goals against average.

A member of the Dean's List, Tim is a student in the Sport Management Department at SUNY Cortland, which is housed in the College's School of Professional Studies. Beauvais is from Hilton, N.Y. and a 2011 graduate of Hilton High School.

The Fred Holloway Award is named after T. Fred "Prof" Holloway who coached Men's Soccer at Cortland from 1936-1972. His teams recorded a combined record of 191-94-23 and had only two losing seasons in 35 years. His teams appeared in three NCAA tournaments and captured six SUNYAC Championships. "Prof" chaired the founding committee of the National Soccer Coaches Association, designed a statistical system for the selection of All America Collegiate Soccer players and in 1958 was selected by the members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America to receive their most coveted laurel, the Annual Honor Award. In 1987, Cortland dedicated it's soccer field in his honor. Holloway passed away in 1990.
