2015 SUNYAC softball awards released

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to recognize and award this season's Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Coach of the Year and All-Conference teams for the 2015 softball season. All awards were voted on by the SUNYAC softball conference coaches.

Brianna Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) from Oneonta is the 2015 Player of the Year. Ashley Lefebvre (Waterford, N.Y.) from Oneonta was awarded Rookie of the Year. Jamie Lachall (Philadelphia, PA) from Cortland and Corrin Spallone (Greece, N.Y.) from Geneseo were awarded Co-Pitcher of the year awards for the season. The 2015 Sandra Hollander Coach of the Year award goes to Cortland's Head Coach Julie Lenhart.

Brianna is fantastic on both sides of the ball. She is leading the league in hitting (.536 in conference play) and is tied for first on defense. She has caught every game for Oneonta this year and she manages the team's entire pitching staff and calls her own game. She is a phenomenal leader both on and off the field.

Ashley Lefebvre is an outstanding athlete. She is batting .441 with 8 doubles, 1 home run, 19 RBIs and 7 stolen bases as a freshman. She played in centerfield for most of the season, but also played some third base. She made a number of diving catches in the outfield that potentially saved a lot of runs. She is also a great person and teammate.

As a sophomore Jamie Lachall has really grown as a pitcher and has become one of the best pitchers on the team. This season she leads the conference in runs allowed with only 12 runs, 3 save and has an earned run average of 1.77. The Co-Pitcher of the Year award also goes to Corrin Spallone from Geneseo. She leads the conference in wins with 9 wins,, sceond for batters struck out with 65 and an opposing batter average of .263.

Julie Lenhart was named the Sandra Hollander Coach of the Year with a 16-2 conference record which earned the Red Dragons the top seed going into the 2015bSUNYAC Championship. Cortland earned its 13th overall SUNYAC title and ninth under Coach Lenhart on Sunday. The SUNYAC title win was Lenhart's 700th win at Corltand in 21 years as Cortland's Head Softball Coach. She also surpassed 800 career wins earlier in the season to became the eighth softball head coach in Div. III history to win 800 games. Cortland will continue on to the NCAA Division III tournament where they will host DeSales, Heidelberg and Neumann in the regional match up. Julie has led her team to the Division III World Series seven times.
