SUNYAC Completes Day 1 of Softball Championship

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Five teams remain after the first round of the 2016 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) double elimination softball championship.

In the first game of the day, top-seed and host, Cortland defeated #6 Buffalo State, 8-0 in five innings. With the loss Buffalo was forced to play in the elimination game at 3 p.m.

Second-seeded Plattsburgh topped #5 New Paltz, 6-2 in the second game which pushed the Hawks to the elimination game against Buffalo State. Third-seeded Geneseo defeated #4 Oneonta, 9-1, in game 3.

In the last game Thursday, Buffalo State fought to stay alive and remain in the tournament in a 6-4, 10 innings win against New Paltz. The Hawks ended their season 18-19 overall. The Bengals and will play Friday at 1 p.m.

Oneonta will face Cortland at 9 a.m. while Geneseo will take on Plattsburgh at 11 a.m., Friday in Cortland.
