Cortland sits atop the 2016 SUNYAC softball preseason poll with 81 points. The defending SUNYAC regular-season and conference tournament champions, Cortland enters the season with the reigning Sandra Hollander Coach of the Year Julie Lenhart, now entering her 22nd season as the Red Dragons head coach. The Red Dragons are looking to follow up a successful 2015 season where they went 16-2 in SUNYAC conference play, and went on to win the SUNYAC title.
In second with 70 points is Oneonta, the 2014 SUNYAC champions. Third year head coach, Sara Headley will look to lead the Red Dragons of Oneonta back to the top of the SUNYAC standings. Replacing last year's SUNYAC Player of the Year, Brianna Rivera will be a priority.
The Knights of Geneseo hold down the third spot on the preseason poll with 61 points following a 28-12 season last year. Led by head coach David Sylvester, the Knights were particularly on their game at home, yielding a 13-1 record on their diamond.
Brockport is fourth in the preseason ranking with 56 points, after a 20-18 (10-8) 2014 campaign.
Buffalo State comes in at fifth with 55 points. The Bengals return 2015 SUNYAC All-Conference first team infielder, Stephanie Novo and pitcher, Lexi Haley.
Fredonia takes sixth in the poll following a 13-18 season in 2015. Fredonia is led by 2015 SUNYAC All- Conference first team infielder, Lindsey Forness.
New Paltz takes the seventh spot, with 33 points, Oswego is eighth (27 points), Plattsburgh ninth (24 points), and Potsdam tenth (9 points).
