Cortland and Buffalo to play for SUNYAC Softball title

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Two teams remain after nine games played in the 2016 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) softball championship tournament.

On day 3 of the SUNYAC softball championship, game 7 resumed after being halted Friday due to rain. The #6 Buffalo State upset second-seeded Plattsburgh, 6-3, in the elimination game. The Bengals had to wait a game to see who their next opponent would be. Plattsburgh ended their season 26-17 overall.

In game 8, Cortland outlasted Geneseo, 1-0, to stay undefeated and send the Knights to face Buffalo State in the final elimination game of the day.

Buffalo State again came through with an upset defeating #3 Geneseo, 5-2. The Knights ended their season 25-17 overall.

Cortland and Buffalo State will play Sunday at 11 a.m. Since the Red Dragons are undefeated, they only need one win to take the SUNYAC title while Buffalo State would need two wins.
