SUNYAC Softball Championship wraps up day two; Buffalo State, Plattsburgh pick up wins

CORTLAND, N.Y. The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) softball championship tournament completed two games today after a delay due to rainy weather.

Five teams still remain to play for the 2017 SUNYAC championship title. Saturday, Oneonta will face Buffalo State at 9 a.m., Cortland will play Oswego at 11 a.m., and Plattsburgh will face the winner of Cortland/Oswego at 1 p.m. The last game of the day will be at 3 p.m. Full Schedule

In the first game Friday, Buffalo State upset top-seeded Cortland, 5-4 to avoid elimination. Emma Ruggiero was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Laura Crooks and Julia Blujus were each 2 for 4 with a run scored. Allie Block pitched the win for Buffalo State, allowing seven hits with seven strikeouts. Box Score

The second game saw Plattsburgh work back against Oswego to win 2-1. After three scoreless frames, Oswego was able to get on the board, after an error, in the bottom of the fourth. With their backs against the wall, the Cardinals got a clutch, two-run home run from freshman Haleigh Agans in the bottom of the sixth.  Rhea Pitkin picked up the win for Plattsburgh, with a complete game, one-hitter.  Box Score
