New Paltz's Becca Borquist (Jr., outside hitter) and Katy Herbst (Sr., libero) each were named to the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) NCAA Division III Metro/Upstate Women's Volleyball All-Star First Team, as announced Wednesday by the ECAC. Both ladies helped lead New Paltz to its second SUNYAC title in program history, going 31-6 overall and 9-0 in the conference. The Hawks also made their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance.
Borquist finished the season leading the SUNYAC and ranking 43rd in Division III in kills per set (3.76) while ranking ninth in the conference in hitting percentage (.242). In addition, Borquist averaged 3.21 digs per set, 0.38 blocks per set, 0.29 service aces per set and 0.17 assists per set. She was also named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Year and First-Team, as well as Third-Team All-American.
Herbst averaged 0.48 assists per set, 0.36 service aces per set and 0.09 kills per set. Herbst was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the SUNYAC Tournament. She finished her career ranked second in program history in digs with 1,948.
Cortland's Mary Kelly (Sr., middle hitter) was the third SUNYAC student-athlete to be named to the ECAC Women's Volleyball All-Star Team. Kelly, at second team selection, led Cortland this season with 254 kills, a .300 attack percentage and 127 blocks in 35 matches.
Representatives at ECAC Division III Metro/Upstate member institutions completed the voting.
