Women's Volleyball Receives Votes in Preseason AVCA Top-25 Poll

AVCA Division III Coaches Top-25 Preseason Poll (2011)

LEXINGTON, Ky.
– The State University of New York at Cortland and SUNY New Paltz women's volleyball teams each received votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Coaches Top-25 Preseason Poll for the 2011 season, as announced late Wednesday by the AVCA.

The Red Dragons received 10 votes (No. 31 overall), while the Hawks came in tied at No. 35 with three votes. Defending NCAA Division III national champion Calvin College of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) topped the preseason poll with 23 first-place votes (599 total).

Cortland finished the 2010 season with a 34-8 record for its highest win total since 2004. The Red Dragons won their 17th SUNYAC title and made their 22nd NCAA tournament showing. The Red Dragons advanced to the NCAA second round before losing a five-set match to Frostburg State (Md.).

The Red Dragons begin the 2011 campaign on their home court as part of the annual Red Dragon Classic Sept. 2-3 where they will face off again Buffalo State and Stockton on day one.
New Paltz finished the 2010 season with a 28-11 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the SUNYAC East Division. The Hawks qualified for the SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament final for the third time in as many years and compiled 26 wins or more for the seventh straight year.  
The Hawks open their 2011 slate with the Molten Volleyball Pikes Peak Challenge on the campus of Colorado College from Sept. 2-3, contesting Westminster (Mo.) College, Colorado College, Howard Payne University and Gustavus Adolphus College.
