Junior middle hitter Dana Vosilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) of the State University of New York at New Paltz women’s volleyball team was chosen as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 9.
Vosilla hit .375 (46-7-104) across five matches, leading the Hawks to a 4-1 week. She also recorded 14 total blocks on the week, averaging 0.88 per set. On Wednesday, she floored 12 kills and racked up a .440 hitting percentage to go with six blocks, keying the New Paltz attack in a four-set win over Williams College. The middle hitter stepped up her game against 20th-ranked Springfield College in the Tom Hay Invitational over the weekend, totaling nine kills in 20 total attempts with no errors to hit a .450 clip. New Paltz finished the Tom Hay Invitational with a 3-1 record, as it downed Westfield State College, the Stevens Institute of Technology and Plymouth State University, 3-0. In recognition for her efforts at the Tom Hay Invitational, she was named to the All-Tournament Team.
For the season, she is hitting a team-best .368 (169-31-375) and leads the squad in blocks with 46 (0.62 per set). Vosilla also leads the conference in hitting percentage.
The Hawks are now 15-8 overall (3-1 SUNYAC East) and return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Stevens Invitational.
