SUNYAC Announces Players of the Week

 

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Cortland
Alyson Dalton, junior

Junior Alyson Dalton (Sherrill, NY/V-V-S) earns her third SUNYAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor of the season after finishing first out of 199 runners at the Connecticut College Invitational. Dalton won her second individual title of the season as she helped the nationally 21st ranked Red Dragons finish second out of 18 schools in the final team standings. Her winning time of 22:12 over 6,000 meters was 14 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Brockport
Matt Avery, senior

Senior Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) placed sixth overall out of 284 runners at the Oberlin College Inter-Regional race to earn SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Avery finished the 8K course in a school record time of 25:04, breaking the old record set in 1988 by one second. He finished 19 seconds behind the winner as the Golden Eagles finished 12th in the team standings.

FIELD HOCKEY - Co-winners
Sara Woodward, sophomore forward - Cortland

Sophomore Sara Woodward (Pine Plains, NY/Pine Plains) helped lead the Red Dragons to a pair of conference wins over the weekend. In a 2-1 victory at New Paltz on Friday, Woodward gave Cortland a 2-0 lead with an early second half goal. In a 3-2 overtime win at Oneonta on Saturday, she scored the game-winner 6:54 into the extra session. Four of Woodward's team-high eight goals, have been game-winning scores.
 
Michelle Milkovich, senior forward - Geneseo
Michelle Milkovich (Vestal, NY/Vestal) set a school record for points in a season with 33 on 12 goals and nine assists after scoring three goals with one assist as Geneseo finished 2-0 on the week. In the 3-2 win over St. Lawrence the senior tied the score at 2-2 at 51:11 and assisted the game-winning score nine minutes later. On Saturday, Milkovich netted both goals in the 2-0 victory over Brockport giving the Blue Knights a school record 12th win of the season.
 
MEN'S SOCCER - Geneseo
Ian Mort, junior forward

Junior forward Ian Mort (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) scored twice and added an assist on the weekend as Geneseo posted two wins to improve to 4-3 in conference play. On Friday, Mort had a goal and an assist in the final 16 minutes of the contest to lead Geneseo to a 3-2 comeback win over the visiting Cortland Red Dragons. Mort knocked in a corner kick in the 74th minute to tie the game and then assisted the game-winning goal with 1:49 remaining. On Saturday, Mort netted the game-winner in a 2-1 victory against Oswego.
 
WOMEN'S SOCCER - Plattsburgh
Liz Radigan, senior forward

Plattsburgh forward Liz Radigan (Troy, NY/Troy) has been selected as the SUNYAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending October 17. Radigan helped Plattsburgh to two conference wins after scoring all three goals for the Cardinals to remain at the top of the conference standings at the end of the week. The senior netted a goal in each half of the 2-1 victory over Buffalo State on Friday. She scored in the 12th minute and then broke the 1-1 tie in the 59th minute off a direct kick. Against Fredonia on Saturday, Radigan broke the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute with her fifth goal of the season.
 
VOLLEYBALL - Cortland
Kaitlyn Cooper, junior middle hitter

Cortland junior Kaitlyn Cooper (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) has been named the SUNYAC Volleyball Player of the Week after averaging 11.4 kills and 4.2 blocks per match in a 3-2 week for the Red Dragons. Cooper totaled 57 kills, hitting .331 with 21 blocks across the five matches. She notched a career-high 17 kills in a five-set loss to Elmira on Tuesday and then registered double-figure kills against Nazareth (10), Salisbury (11) and Richard Stockton (10).
