Geneseo seniors Alyssa Smith (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and Lee Berube (Putnam Station, NY/Ticonderoga) both led their squads over the weekend to earn SUNYAC Cross Country Runner of the Week honors.
Smith led the Geneseo women’s cross country team to a third place finish in Saturday’s Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational with 93 points. The #1 ranked team in Division I, Georgetown, won the meet with 16 and Ohio University was second with 84. Smith crossed the finish line 11th overall in a time of 22:00 over the six-kilometer course, ten seconds ahead of SUNYAC foe Alyson Dalton from Cortland.
Berube got off to a flying start in the 2011 season as he won the individual title at Saturday’s Penn State’s Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational. The Knights, ranked eighth in the nation and second in the Atlantic Region, took first as a teamwith 33 points to runner-up Dickinson's 45 points. Ohio University scored 54 points, Ithaca was fourth with 134 and Cortland placed fifth with 143. Berube clocked in at 25:54 over 5.2 miles to finish ahead of teammate Eddie Novara (26.27).
