Brockport's Workman Named George M. Rich Outstanding Senior Athlete Recipient

Brockport Sports Information Department

BROCKPORT, NY – Senior baseball student-athlete Reilly Workman was named the George M. Rich outstanding senior athlete award winner during the College's online leadership awards ceremony on Monday evening.

This award is named after George Rich, "Mr. Brockport," who was a constant fixture around the College and a fan of intercollegiate athletics. The winner of this award must be a four-year letter winner who has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, citizenship, ethical conduct, and leadership throughout their career beyond what is generally expected of student-athletes at Brockport.

Workman will graduate in May with a degree in sports management and a minor in communication.  He was a four year letter winner with the Golden Eagles baseball program and in 2019 he was named the Brockport Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year. Workman was also on the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board.

"There are so many outstanding student athletes at Brockport and to receive the George Rich award is an incredible honor," said Workman about the award. "I am so honored to have been the SAAC president the last two years. It gave me the platform and the ability to give back to those less fortunate and to be a part of making this college and community a better place for all."

He was extremely active in the department's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), serving as president from 2018-2020. He was also vice president for communications for the SUNYAC Conference SAAC.  Prior to becoming president of the Brockport SAAC, he served as vice president in 2017-2018.  He was also a "Yards for Yeardley" Coordinator and Volunteer (2018), peer mentor for incoming freshman athletes (2017-2019), NCAA Leadership Development Conference attendee (2017) and he was a part of the College's study abroad program in New Zealand in 2019.

His volunteer efforts over the course of his time at Brockport were truly impressive.  He participated in the Brockport Challenger Baseball Partnership event from 2018-2020 and also volunteered his time to a school youth reading program in Rochester's inner city. He played an intricate role in the Brockport hockey program's Teddy Bear Toss each year and also volunteered at the Brockport clothing shelter.  He gave his time at the Special Olympics Day of Play and has also performed violin at nursing homes over the course of a 12 year span.

"Without the help of all of SAAC, all of the administrators, and my family, for supporting me and trusting me to lead them to do the right things, I would not be where I'm at today," said Workman. "Once again I am truly honored to have been named the 2020 George Rich Award recipient."

His work in the classroom may very well be as impressive as his time spent on the baseball diamond and throughout the volunteer community. Workman has been inducted into five honor society's for leadership, achievement and academics and he is a three time president's list honoree following a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the Spring of 2017 and Fall of 2018 and 2019.  He was also a three times Dean's list recipient at Brockport.

Workman has been accepted into the Sports Administration master's program at Boston College where he plans to attend in the Fall.
