CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) picked Geneseo's Jordan Penkitis (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Cortland's Marisa D'Amico (Smithtown, N.Y.) as this week's PrestoSports Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.
Penkitis scored her first career hat-trick in last Wednesday's 5-0 victory over visiting Keuka before adding a goal in Geneseo's 3-2 victory at defending SUNYAC Champion New Paltz on Saturday. The Knights won their ninth-consecutive decision to break a tie for second-longest winning streak in program history while winning the 11th game in their last 12 outings.
D'Amico helped lead the Red Dragons to a pair of wins last week, posting a 2-0 record with a 0.88 GAA, 19 saves and a .905 save percentage. In a 2-1 double-overtime non-conference home win versus St. John Fisher on Tuesday, D'Amico registered a career-high 18 saves as the Red Dragons earned the come-from-behind win. She then turned aside one shot as Cortland defeated Oswego, 2-1, in overtime on the road on Saturday as Cortland improved to 6-0 in overtime games this season. In 13 starts, D'Amico has posted a 10-3 record with a 1.22 GAA, 103 saves and an .866 save percentage.
