CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces Plattsburgh's swept of this week's Men's Soccer PrestoSports Athletes of the Week. Ankit Patel (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) has earned Offensive Athlete of the Week, Patrick Feeley (Harriman, N.Y.) goes home with Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Patel, the sophomore midfielder, scored all three goals for Plattsurgh as the Cardinals went 2-0-0 on the week to clinch a berth in the 2019 SUNYAC men's soccer tournament and move into a tie with Oneonta for first place in the SUNYAC standings. Patel started the week by scoring the game-winning goal in the 74th minute of Plattsburgh's 1-0 win over Cortland on Friday at the Field House Complex. Patel then scored both Plattsburgh goals in the Cardinals' 2-0 win over Oswego in a home match on Saturday. He scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the seventh minute of the match and then added an insurance goal in the 70th minute. With the three goals, Patel tallied six points on the week.
Making his first two starts of the season, junior goalkeeper Feeley (2-0-0) recorded two shutouts, 15 saves and a 1.000 save percentage in 180:00 minutes played to backstop Plattsburgh to a 2-0-0 record on the week. Feeley began the week with six saves in the Cardinals' 1-0 home win over Cortland on Friday. He then backed that performance up with nine saves in a 2-0 win over Oswego to earn his 10th career shutout on Saturday at the Field House Complex. With the two victories, Plattsburgh State increased its winning streak to five matches.
