2019 SUNYAC Women's Tennis Annual Awards Announced

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's tennis coaches have voted on the 2019 top tennis awards which include the Peter J. Cahill MVP, Doubles Team of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and the All-Conference teams.

Peter J. Cahill Most Valueable Player: Trinity Chow, New Paltz

Trinity Chow (Glen Cove, N.Y.) put together a singles record of 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference to earn the Peter J. Cahill MVP award for the second year in a row. Chow dominated at No. 1 singles giving up just four our of 76 sets to her opponents in six straight matches. 

Doubles Team of the Year: Trinity Chow and Laura Koob, New Paltz

Chow and Laura Koob (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led New Paltz at first doubles. They produced a 9-1 overall record and 5-0 in conference play with their only loss coming from RPI by only one point, 7-8. In most of their matchups they defeated their opponents flawlessly not giving up any points in five of seven matches. 

Rookie of the Year: Onalee Batcheller, New Paltz

Onalee Batcheller (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) went 10-2 in singles overall in the 2019 regular season and 11-3 in doubles. Batcheller won 14 conference matches between singles and doubles to help New Paltz finish conference play ranked No. 1. She pulled out three shutouts this season, one in singles play and the other two in doubles. Batcheller played a majority of her singles matches at No. 5 and doubles was primarily played at No. 3.

Coach of the Year: Rob Bruley, New Paltz

Rob Bruley has led the New Paltz tennis program to contined success for nearly two decades. As head coach, Bruley has placed first or second in the SUNYAC Championship for 18 consecutive years including this year's SUNYAC title win. Bruley has coached now eight athletes into earning the Peter J. Cahill MVP Award, including back-to-back recipient Trinity Chow. Bruley coached his team to a regular season record of 7-1 and added two more wins in the SUNYAC championship. The Hawks will compete in the NCAA DIII women's tennis tournament in May.
