GENESEO, N.Y. - Geneseo senior Ashlyn Kersch was named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District Softball Team announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recently.
The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. After being selected All-District, Kersch moves on to the national ballot where she will be considered for Academic All-America status. Only nine Geneseo student-athletes have received Academic All-American distinction, most recently with Sean McAneny '20, Luke Holtzman '19 and Natalie LaCourt '18 earning the honor within the last two years.
Kersch maintained a 3.47 GPA as a mathematics major to earn her second-consecutive CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. She pitched for the Knights over four seasons, twirling a total of 357.2 innings with a 39-14 career record from the rubber. An All-SUNYAC First Team selection in 2019, she finished the year with 18 wins (third-most in a season in Geneseo history), 97 strikeouts and six complete-game shutouts. She also recorded a career .349 batting average, including a career-best .381 mark in 2019, when she recorded 51 hits, 11 doubles, four home runs and 33 RBI. Kersch ends her career ranked eighth in Geneseo history in innings pitched, seventh in strikeouts (267), fourth in shutouts (13), fifth in wins (39) and fourth in career ERA (2.00). She tossed the Knights' first no-hitter since 2016 on May 2, 2019, as the Knights' defeated Oswego, 5-0, in the first game of the 2019 SUNYAC Tournament.
She helped Geneseo to its winningest season in program history as the team finished 2019 with a program-record 37 wins. Named MVP of the 2019 NCAA Thomas More Regional, Kersch led the Knights to their first-ever NCAA Regional victory as the team advanced to the NCAA Super-Regional for the first time in program history. In her four years at Geneseo, the Knights posted a 95-38 record.
