CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Matt Petzian (Mississauga, Ontario), Travis Broughman (Mechanicsville, Virginia) and Jimmy Poreda (Tonawanda, N.Y.) as this weeks Rookie, Player and Goaltender of the Week respectively.
Petizian drew the start in goal on Saturday for Geneseo, posting a 23-save win as the Knights defeated visiting Canton, 10-2. Petizian allowed just two goals and made 23 saves in his first career goalkeeping victory. In two appearances, Petizian has made 38 saves and posted a .905 save percentage.
Broughman helped the Lakers cruise through the weekend as they faced off against Plattsburgh and Potsdam. On Friday as Oswego took on Plattsburgh in the well-known Whiteout game, Broughman recorded an assist and a +2 on ice rating in the team's 3-0 shutout. The Mechanicsville, Va. native would continue his point streak to Saturday as he tallied 4 points throughout the game. The junior would hit the scoresheet early recording two assists on the Lakers first two goals of the game, while finding the back of the net for the last two Laker goals only 30 seconds apart. Broughman would finish the weekend with 5 points and an on ice rating of +6.
Junior goaltender Poreda played to a 1-1-0 record with 48 saves, a .923 save percentage and a 2.03 goals against average on the week. Poreda began the week by making 26 saves at then-No. 5 Oswego State on Saturday. He then concluded his week with 22 saves and a .957 save percentage as Plattsburgh State won 4-1 at SUNY Cortland for its first victory under first-year head coach Steve Moffat.
