
#8 Cortland Blanks Oswego, 7-0, to Advance to SUNYAC Title Game

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The top-seeded Cortland field hockey team shut out fourth-seeded Oswego, 7-0, in the semifinal round of the SUNYAC tournament at the Cortland Stadium Complex.
Cortland (16-1), ranked eighth nationally, will host second-seeded New Paltz in the championship game Saturday at 1 p.m. New Paltz defeated Oneonta, 2-1, in Wednesday's other semifinal game. Cortland has won the last two SUNYAC titles, including a 2-1 home win over New Paltz in last year's finals.
Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) finished with three goals and one assist to lead Cortland. She recorded her fifth career hat trick, including two this season. Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) scored twice, Gianna Trunfio (Clinton) and Sidney DeMagistris (Gloversville) each scores once, and Carolena Purpura (Centerport/Harborfields) notched one assist.
Cortland outshot the Lakers, 48-0, and had a 27-1 advantage in penalty corners. Oswego goalie Sam Krautheim made 24 saves. Cortland's Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) played the first three quarters in goal and Sofia Cannistraci (Guilderland) played the final 15 minutes.
The game was scoreless until Cortland quickly struck for three goals in the final four minutes of the first quarter. Ettere's goal with 3:11 left opened the scoring, and Corrigan dribbled into the circle off a restart and scored with 1:49 left. Cortland was awarded a penalty stroke 30 seconds later and Corrigan converted to make it 3-0.
DeMagistris redirected in a shot from Ettere with 9:16 left in the second quarter to give the Red Dragons a 4-0 halftime lead. Ettere scored 4:16 into the third quarter to make it 5-0, and she completed her hat trick with a goal off a blast with 10:16 left in the fourth. Trunfio closed the scoring with 6:18 left when she redirected home a shot by Purpura.
