#9 Cortland Field Hockey Falls to #5 Johns Hopkins, 5-1 in NCAA Second Round

MIDDLEBURY, VT – The nationally ninth-ranked Cortland field hockey team saw its season come to an end on Saturday with a 5-1 defeat to nationally fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Cortland ends the season with an 18-2 record, while Johns Hopkins improves to 19-3 and moves to Sunday's third round.
 
Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) scored Cortland's lone goal. Her goal also tied Carol Merchant (1991-94) for the most goals in a career in program history with 74. Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) made 10 saves in goal for Cortland.
 
Lila Slattery scored twice for the Blue Jays, while Megan Chang and Jenna Halpin each had a goal and an assist. Aubrey Kilgore made eight saves for the victory.
 
Johns Hopkins started quickly, forcing Morgan to make two saves in the opening 30 seconds of the game. Less than four minutes into the game, Slattery netted the opening goal. Just three minutes later, Slattery made it 2-0 after an assist from Chang.
 
Following a penalty corner, Liz Falterer scored for the Blue Jays in the final second of the quarter to make it 3-0.
 
In the opening minute of the second quarter, Ettere scored for Cortland, sneaking a shot past Kilgore to make it 3-1.
 
Johns Hopkins scored two more times in the half to complete the scoring at halftime.
 
Cortland had two shots on goal in the third quarter, and six more shots on goal in the fourth quarter, but the Red Dragons were unable to score another goal the remainder of the game, as Johns Hopkins completed the victory.
