Cortland senior midfielder Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) has been named the 2024 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Region 3 Player of the Year. In addition, head coach Tiffany Hubbard, along with associate head coach Jessica Welsh and assistant coach Sue Carlin, have been recognized as the 2024 NFHCA Region 3 Coaching Staff of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Corrigan is Cortland's first regional player of the year winner since the award was first given out in 2009. She was named to the all-region first team for the fourth consecutive year last week, the first time since Christine McCabe (2006-09) that a Red Dragon was a four-time first team honoree. She also repeated as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Offensive Player of the Year in November, and was a four-time All-SUNYAC first team selection. Corrigan started all 20 games for Cortland in 2024, scoring 41 points on 18 goals and five assists, and netted four game-winning goals. Corrigan also registered six multi-goal games for the Red Dragons on the year, and tied for 21st nationally in goals per game. Each regional player of the year award winner is now in the running for national player of the year honors that will be announced later this month.
Hubbard and her staff guided Cortland to a 18-2 overall record for the second straight year, and helped the Red Dragons claim their third consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) conference championship with victories over Oswego, 7-0, and New Paltz, 2-1, in the conference tournament. Cortland also earned its fourth straight NCAA Division III tournament appearance. The Red Dragons defeated Ohio Wesleyan, 2-1, in the first round, before falling to Johns Hopkins, 5-1, in the second round, finishing the year tied for ninth nationally.
Cortland finished second nationally in win percentage (.900) and in scoring margin (+3.36 goals per game), fourth nationally in scoring average (4.15 goals per game), and sixth nationally in goals against average (0.79).
Eight student-athletes earned All-SUNYAC honors, as well as SUNYAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year major awards. The Cortland staff also earned SUNYAC Coaching Staff of the Year for the second straight season.
Last week, five Cortland players were named to the NFHCA All-Region teams for the second straight year.
