SUNYAC Annual Honors Announced for 2023 Men's Swimming & Diving

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC announces the 2023 Men's Swimming and Diving Swimmer, Diver and Rookie of the Year awards as nominated and voted on by the conference coaches. 

Men's Swimmer and Rookie of the Year - Jake Nielsen, Geneseo
Nielsen was voted the SUNYAC Men's Swimmer of the Year and Rookie of the Year. He won the 100 breaststroke, 50 yard freestyle and was a part of four winning relays at the SUNYAC championship meet. In his first year with the Knights, Nielsen was named the Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet, which is nominated and voted on by the conference coaches at the championship. At the NCAA Division III championship meet, Nielsen placed 13th in the 50 freestyle with a new SUNYAC record of 20.18. He went 19.3 on the sixth place 200 freestyle relay and 44.1 on the 15th place 400 freestyle relay.

Men's Diver of the Year - Trent Makowiec, Geneseo
In his junior year, Makowiec went undefeated in dual meets. He won both boards at the SUNYAC championship meet and was named the Diver of the Meet with the most overall points. Makowiec advanced to the NCAA Division III championship meet where he finished fourth in the one-meter dive and ninth in the three-meter dive.
