NCAA championships committee announces qualifiers for men's and women's swimming and diving

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Committee announced the participants in the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships which included several State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) student-athletes.

The championships will be held March 15-18 at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.  The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the City of Shenandoah will serve as hosts. A total of 527 participants (479 swimmers and 48 divers) will compete in the championships.

Student-athletes qualified for the swimming portion of the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered.  Divers were determined by performances achieved at the regional diving meets.  

NCAA.com will video stream all sessions Wednesday through Saturday of the championships. 


SUNYAC Women:

After being awarded Outstanding Female Swimmer of the Meet at the SUNYAC Championships, Geneseo's Nancy Nasky qualified 15th (17:10.95) in the women's 1650 freestyle. She is also scheduled to compete in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

Additionally, the SUNYAC will be well represented in both the women's 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.

SUNYAC Men:

On the men's side, Connor Mergler of Buffalo State has qualified eighth (44.79) in the men's 100 freestyle and ninth in the 50 freestyle (20.46). Mergler, along with Geneseo's Jeff Doser are scheduled to compete in the 200 freestyle.

Doser will also join his Knights unit of Scott Guyton, Matthew Modelewski and Derek Secord in the 200 freestyle relay, after qualifying 14th (1:22.32). Geneseo is also scheduled to compete in the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay and 800 freestyle relay.

The SUNYAC will also see four male student-athletes competing in the men's 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
