
Buffalo State's Willick and Plattsburgh's Gilroy Earn Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Buffalo State's Vanessa Willick is this week's SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week, while Plattsburgh's Lillian Gilroy is the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Willick was a staple of the Buffalo State offense to open the season last week tallying 13 points with seven goals and six assists. In a win over Alfred State, Willick posted four goals, five assists, five ground balls, and six draw controls. In Saturday's win over Utica, Willick added three goals, one assist, two ground balls, nine draw controls and also scored the game-winning goal with nine seconds remaining.
Gilroy had a strong performance on defense for the Cardinals, defending 32 draw controls in three games for Plattsburgh. Gilroy finished the week with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Gilroy's best performance came against Vermont State University (VTSU) Castleton where she controlled a career-high 17 draw controls which set a Plattsburgh single-game record. She also had three ground balls and one caused turnover.
