Geneseo Student-Athletes Serve for Special Olympics

On Wednesday, January 26, members of the SUNY Geneseo field hockey, women's volleyball and women's lacrosse teams participated in a regional effort to raise funds for the Central New York Special Olympics.
"We want to thank you and your athletes for helping us to make this event a success and we hope to work with your outstanding students again in the future," said Kc Riedell, Top Line Restaurants, Inc./Denny's.

The event took place at more than 30 Denny's Restaurants in the Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse areas and our student-athletes aided the cause by volunteering their time as servers for the evening. Denny's donated a portion of their sales that night, along with generous donations from the patrons, to raise over $10,000 for the CNY Special Olympics.

Neal Johnson, the President and CEO of Special Olympics New York Inc. stated, "Your support of Special Olympics is not just meaningful for our athletes but also for members of our communities who need to know more about people with Intellectual Disabilities. Thanks for being on our team."

The effort by the Blue Knights helps fulfill an initiative by the National Student Athletic Advisory Committee, who adopted Special Olympics as a specific citizenship effort for Division III in an announcement made on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the NCAA convention in San Antonio, Texas.
