The SUNYAC volleyball teams competed this past weekend in the first round of East and West divisional pool play hosted by New Paltz and Geneseo.
In the east division, New Paltz finished with an unblemished 4-0 record on the weekend to extend its home winning streak to 30, dating back to October of 2006. New Paltz swept three of its four opponents but needed an extra game to defeat Cortland 3-1.
On the west side, Fredonia posted a perfect 4-0 record after sweeping all four teams. Geneseo forced the Blue Devils to extra points in the first set in a tough 26-24 fight and Brockport did the same thing in the second set of its three-game match.
Another divisional round robin will take place Oct. 22-23 at SUNY Potsdam (east) and Oswego (west). The top three teams from the East and West divisions will advance to the SUNYAC postseason tournament Nov. 4-6 at the West champion. Each division winner will receive a bye into the tournament semifinals.
