FREDONIA, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced members of the 2010 All-SUNYAC Volleyball team in addition to the players and rookies of the year from the East and West Divisions.
In the East Division, the Player of the Year honor stayed in the family as Cortland junior Ashley Coyle (Mt. Hope, NY/Minisink Valley) followed in her sister's footsteps. Coyle's sister Brittany, who played for New Paltz won the award in 2009. The East Division Rookie of the Year honor went to New Paltz's Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker). On the west side, Geneseo's Krista Frieling (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) and Noelle Morrison (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) took Player and Rookie of the Year honors, respectively.
Coyle led the Red Dragons to a No. 1 seed in the East Division and a first round bye in the SUNYAC Tournament with a 7-1 conference record. The outside hitter currently has 531 kills on the season, which ranks third all-time in a season at Cortland, and only needs 34 more to move into second place. She is averaging 3.93 kills per set with a .263 attack percentage. Coyle leads the squad with 3.27 digs per set. She has recorded double -figure kills in 31 of 38 matches, including 20 or more six times. She set a career high of 24 kills against Stockton College and matched that two more times in the season against Union and Skidmore.
Hack has played in all 36 matches for the Hawks this season, leading the team to a current 26-10 record and a perfect 10-0 on their home court. Hack has totaled double-figure digs in28 of 36 matches, including a season-high of 30 against Fredonia. She stands second in the conference with 516 digs and she is fourth on her team with 30 service aces.
Frieling is the first Geneseo player to earn player of the year honors since 2004. The senior opposite hitter has totaled 415 kills to date (3.64 per set), almost double the amount of the next player on the team, ranking second in the conference. She stands second on the team with 53 blocks and has collected 175 digs.
It is the second consecutive year that a Geneseo player has been selected as the West Division Rookie of the year and fourth time in the last seven years. Morrison has recorded 1010 assists this fall for an 8.56 average per set. She has also totaled 253 digs and posted a .238 attack percentage in 35 matches this season.
