Huppee's record night advances Morrisville in SUNYAC playoffs

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) recorded a single match record 36 kills Tuesday night to lead the third seeded SUNY Morrisville Mustangs to a 3-2 match win over sixth seed Potsdam in SUNYAC playoff action in Morrisville.

- SUNY Morrisville senior Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) recorded a single match record 36 kills Tuesday night as she carried the third seeded Mustangs to a come-from-behind match win over sixth seeded SUNY Potsdam in Morrisville, by a match final 3-2.
- Morrisville took the 1-0 match lead with a 25-17 defeat of the Bears in the opening set but were caught on their heels in the second as Potsdam opened with an 11-0 scoring run before the Mustangs were able to put a point on the board.
- Potsdam evened the match at one with a 25-9 victory in the second and took a one-set lead after edging Morrisville 26-24 in the third.
- Morrisville fell behind in the fourth 12-7 but turned the tables and outscored the Bears 5-1 over the next six rallies to make it a one-point set.
- Tied at 17, Morrisville went on a four-point service run, recording back-to-back kills from Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.), but the Bears clawed their way back into the contest to make it a two-point set, 23-21, with hitting errors by the Mustangs attack.
- Morrisville was able to make it set point with a kill by Huppee, before an attack error on Potsdam gave the hosts the set win, forcing the match to be settled with the fifth and decisive set.
- Potsdam opened with three straight points and led 11-7, but Morrisville dug in and went on a seven point run to reach match point.
- Olson kicked off the Mustangs rally with a kill down the line, before Kylie Hutchinson (Liberty Hill, Tex.) served up an ace to cut the deficit to two.
- Back-to-back kills by Huppee evened the set at 11 points apiece, but the senior wasn't done as she posted five straight kills to position the Mustangs for the match win.
- Potsdam, though, would rally to regain the one-point advantage, 15-14, but once again the senior outside hitter would slam another to the floor to tie the contest at 15.
- An attack error on Potsdam positioned the Mustangs yet again for taking the match, and on the final service, Huppee collected her 36th kill of the night, advancing Morrisville to the next round in playoff action with the 17-16 set five victory.
- Alyssa Adams led the Potsdam efforts with 19 kills, adding eight assisted blocks and 24 digs to her totals, while teammate Megan Henry contributed 18 kills to go along with seven digs.
- Sophia Layer put up 32 assists and had 18 digs on the night, serving four aces, with Rachel Madore contributing to the defensive efforts with 20 digs.
- Huppee hit .275 from the floor with her 36 kills, adding 14 digs and two aces, while Olson added another 11 kills to the Mustang totals.
- Samantha Siedlecki (Thorton, Colo.) posted eight kills to go along with six assisted blocks, while Morrisville had big defensive numbers from Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) who had 31 kills and seven assists.
- Cassandra Bellmore (Windsor, N.Y.) had 15 digs to go along with five assisted blocks and 46 assists on the night.
- Potsdam held the .132 to .117 hitting advantage over the Mustangs across the night, collecting 11 total blocks at the net.
WHAT'S NEXT:
- Morrisville advances to the semifinal round of the SUNYAC playoffs, facing second seed Buffalo State College, Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.
- The match will be held at SUNY Cortland, who is the overall top seed for the tournament.
- Potsdam closes out the season with a 14-10 overall record.
