Three SUNYAC athletes earn ECAC weekly honors

Three State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Athletes of the Week have been honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) this week. Freshman cross country runner Nathan Doyle has been selected as the Division III Upstate Rookie of the Week, junior outside hitter Becca Borquist was named the Division III Metro/Upstate Volleyball Player of the week and freshman goalkeeper Sarita Charap was picked as the Division III Mid-Atlantic Field Hockey Rookie of the Week.

Nathan Doyle – Plattsburgh
Freshman, Pittsford, N.Y.

 
In his first collegiate five-kilometer race, freshman Nathan Doyle finished first at the SUNY Canton Kangaroo Invitational with at time of 16:48, 34 seconds before his nearest competitor. This effort helped the Cardinals to a second place finish.


Becca Borquist – New Paltz
Junior, Outside hitter, Rhinebeck, N.Y.

 
In New Paltz's 2-2 showing against top ranked teams, Borquist averaged 3.93 kills per set and hit .310. She also averaged 2.13 digs per set, 0.33 service aces per set and 0.13 blocks per set. She had 12 kills, five digs and three service aces in the Hawks' 3-1 loss against Calvin College. She also had a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs in the loss against Roger Williams. Against Clarkson University she recorded 14 kills while hitting .333 with eight digs. To cap it off she registered 12 kills and hit .367 with nine digs in the victory over Simmons College.


Sarita Charap – Oswego
Freshman, Goalkeeper, Ocean City, N.J.

 
In the second half of Friday's game against ninth-ranked William Smith College, Charap made her college debut. She shut the door on the offence that scored six in the first half with 13 saves allowing just one goal.
