SUNYAC's first 2014 fall Athletes of the Week selected

CORTLAND, NY - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the first athletes of the week selections for the 2014 fall season. Nine athletes from seven different institutions have been honored.

FEMALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Hannah Groshner - Potsdam
Hannah Groshner won the 2014 Kangaroo Cross Invitational at SUNY Canton on Saturday with a 5K time of 21:00. It was the first victory of her career and helped the Bears to a second place team finish.

MALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Nathan Doyle - Plattsburgh
In the first collegiate race of his career, freshman Nathan Doyle took the individual title at the SUNY Canton Kangaroo Invitational last Saturday as he covered the five-kilometer course in 16:48. The Pittsford, N.Y., native was 34 seconds faster than his closest competitor and helped the Cardinals claim second place in the five-team race.

FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sarita Charap - Oswego
In her collegiate debut with the Lakers trailing 6-0 to No. 9 William Smith, Charap put on an outstanding performance, saving 13 shots from the Herons while allowing just one goal. The freshman played all 35 minutes of the second half, frustrating the William Smith offense that scored at will in the opening period.

FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Andrea Day - Oneonta
Andrea Day posted two goals and added two assists in leading the Red Dragons to a pair of season opening wins against Wooster and St. Lawrence.

MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nick Davies
- Potsdam
Nick Davies posted a 1-0-1 mark between the pipes for the Bears at the Cardinal Classic over the weekend. He had a .917 save percentage and a 0.45 goals-against-average and shut out Fitchburg State 2-0 on Saturday.

MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Peter DiLorenzo - Brockport
Junior forward Peter DiLorenzo scored the lone goal in an overtime victory against St. Mary's. DiLorenzo headed in the first goal of a 2-2 tie against No. 19 Salisbury.

WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Patricia Galan - Geneseo
Starting sophomore back Patricia Galan helped lead a Geneseo defense that recorded two shutouts this past weekend and held their opponents to three shots combined.

WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cayli Carmona - Brockport
Senior forward Cayli Carmona scored a goal and assisted on another in a 2-0 tournament title victory over Centenary. Carmona also scored the clincher in a 2-1 overtime game against Drew to put Brockport in the title match.

VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Becca Borquist - New Paltz
New Paltz junior outside hitter Becca Borquist averaged 3.93 kills per set and hit .310 in a 2-2 showing for the Hawks at the Clarkson Classic. Borquist also averaged 2.13 digs per set, 0.33 service aces per set and 0.13 blocks per set. As a result of her efforts, she was named to the All-Tournament Team. Against top-ranked Calvin College on Friday, she boasted 12 kills, five digs and three service aces in the Hawks' 3-1 loss. In Friday night's 3-2 triumph over 2013 NCAA Tournament qualifier Roger Williams University, she posted a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs. Versus regional foe and No. 20 Clarkson University on Saturday, she registered 14 kills and hit .333 while adding eight digs, powering the New Paltz offense in a 3-0 loss. Finally, in a 3-0 victory over Simmons College on Saturday, she tallied 12 kills and hit .367 while also contributing nine digs.
