NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - New Paltz won the 2024 SUNYAC women's basketball championship after defeating Geneseo, 52-47, Saturday at New Paltz. This is the Hawks seventh overall conference crown. With the win New Paltz earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Brianna Fitzgerald named the Tournament MVP after totaling 51 points, 22 rebounds, seven steals, six assists and four blocks for the Hawks in the semifinal and final games.
Elite 20 - An award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
The SUNYAC honored this year's honoree on Friday night. Cortland's Lily Woodis is an early childhood education major with a 4.00 GPA.
