Cortland Field Claims 2023 Field Hockey Championship to Defend Title

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland beat New Paltz, 2-1, to capture its second-straight and 17th overall SUNYAC field hockey championship, Saturday at Cortland's Stadium Complex. With the win the Red Dragons earned an automatic berth into the NCAA DIII tournament.

Gianna Trunfio was named the SUNYAC Field Hockey Tournament MVP after scoring three of Cortland's six goals in the tournament.

The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.

Emma Morgan from Cortland is the 2023 field hockey honoree. Morgan is a sophomore physical education major maintaining a 3.82 GPA.
