2023 SUNYAC Field Hockey Conference Awards Announced

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC releases its 2023 field hockey annual awards including All-Conference teams, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year as voted on by the conference coaches.

Offensive Player of the Year - Hanna Corrigan, Cortland
As Cortland's biggest play maker, covering the field end line to end line, Corrigan leads an offense that outscored its opponents 75-11 so far this season. The junior tallied 19 points with eight goals and three assists from the midfield. Corrigan had the game-winning goal against Skidmore to take the 3-2 victory, October 28. She was named to the 2023 SUNYAC Field Hockey All-Tournament team after winning the program's second-straight and 17th overall conference title. The Red Dragons will move on to the NCAA DIII Tournament on Wednesday.

Defensive Player of the Year - Madison Rice, Cortland
Rice leads Cortland's defensive unit that allowed just 11 goals and tallied 10 shutouts so far this season. In 2023, the Red Dragons only dropped one game so far by just one goal in overtime (3-2) against Rochester. Rice was named to this year's SUNYAC Field Hockey All-Tournament team after Cortland defended the conference championship with a 2-1 win over New Paltz in the final game on November 2. She will continue her senior season in the NCAA tournament when the team hosts Stevens on Wednesday.

Rookie of the Year - Alexandra Howell, Oneonta
Howell stepped into a big role for Oneonta after her teammate had a season ending injury. As a freshman, she started all 18 games and was second on the team with 21 points totaling five goals and 11 assists. The Red Dragons finished their season 8-10 overall.

Coaching Staff of the Year - Cortland
The Cortland field hockey program is led by head coach Tiffany Hubbard and she is assisted by Sue Carlin and Jessica Welsh. Four athletes were named to the 2023 SUNYAC All-Conference first team and one to the second team including the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year. The staff led their team to Cortland's second-straight and 17th overall conference title in 2023. The Red Dragons will play in their third-straight NCAA Division III tournament and 31st overall when they host Stevens Institute of Technology in the first-round on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.
